It can return a status for a specific person when a reporting agency supplies data, and it can register a user for certain later events tied to that record.
Coverage depends on who holds the person. For a participating county jail, MI-VINE alerts may include release, transfer, and escape. For a Michigan Department of Corrections prisoner, VINELink offers registration for a general release notice. An Iosco County case can move between these systems. Someone booked at the Iosco County Jail is a county detainee. Someone later committed to MDOC is a state prisoner. The agency name on the matched VINELink record therefore matters as much as the status.

When no match appears, first test spelling, aliases, and name order. Then reconsider the system. A county-jail release, a county-jail transfer, and an MDOC general release are different. If more than one person has a similar name, return to the matched record and confirm the agency before changing notice settings. One mistaken match can produce an alert about a different person, while a correct match with stale contact data can produce no usable notice at all.

MDOC still completes release planning, and the later agency record should be checked for actual movement.

VINELink warns that its information is not guaranteed to be accurate, timely, or complete. Reporting can lag. Read status, supervision, sentence, Earliest Release Date, Maximum Discharge, and discharge facts together. An Earliest Release Date is parole eligibility, not a promised release day.
Federal custody is outside Michigan VINE coverage. A federally sentenced person belongs in the BOP inmate locator, while a known immigration transfer may require the ICE locator. Neither path can confirm an Iosco jail release by itself. The final proof remains the custody record plus the court or supervising-agency record that explains it.
